BTS (방탄소년단)
BTS, also known as 방탄소년단 (Bulletproof Boyscouts / Bangtan Sonyeondan) and Beyond the Scene, is a septet of men from South Korea who began forming in 2010 and debuted in 2013. They are the best-selling artist in South Korean history, having sold over 20 million albums on the Gaon Music Chart. BTS made an impact in the U.S. quickly, and was the first Korean group to receive a certification from the Recording Industry Association of American (RIAA) for “Mic Drop”. Meet the 7 guys below.
Kim Seokjin (김석진) is one of the vocalists for BTS and his stage name is Jin. Jin’s hometown is Gwacheon, South Korea and his birthday is December 4, 1992 (see some of the birthday projects we have initiated in Jin’s name). He was scouted by Big Hit Entertainment due to his looks while he was walking down a street. You may know Jin by his other, self-proclaimed, nickname – Worldwide Handsome.
Min Yoongi (민윤기) is one of the other rappers for BTS. He is also known as his stage name SUGA, or his solo rap name of Agust D. Yoongi was born on March 9, 1993 and his hometown is Daegu. He is a well known songwriter and producer in South Korea, having over 100 songs attributed to him within the Korean Music Copyright Association. Additionally, Yoongi has released two mixtapes under his Agust D moniker – Agust D and D-2. See his birthday projects, too!
Jung Hoseok (정호석) is the third rapper for BTS, but also has proven he has vocal capability as well. He is also the main dancer for the group. His hometown is Gwangju and his birthday is February 18, 1994. Hoseok’s stage name is j-hope (제이홉), but is often known as Hobi, as well. His stage name, j-hope, came from his desire to represent hope for fans as well as to be “the hope of BTS”. J-Hope has also released his own mixtape, Hope World. Park Jimin (박지민) is another vocalist as well as part of the dance line for BTS. He is also known as his stage name, Jimin. Jimin’s hometown is Busan and his birthday is October 13, 1995. Before BTS, he was studying contemporary dance at Busan High School of the Arts and was a top student in the modern dance department. Kim Taehyung (김태형) is another vocalist as well as part of the dance line for BTS. He is also known as his stage name, V. Taehyung’s hometown is also Daegu, like Yoongi, and his birthday is December 30, 1995. He has proved his versatility in the arts, landing a the role of Seok Han-sung in the K-drama, Hwarang.
